If Daughters Prophesy, Their Voices Must Reach the Decision Room

A woman leads intercession before dawn, teaches children, counsels families, carries a congregation through bereavement and sings the message into the memory of the church. Her spiritual labour is celebrated. Yet when doctrine, money, appointments, safeguarding or mission priorities are decided, she is absent from the room.

This contradiction is not solved by counting women on a platform. Visibility, voice, influence, office and decision authority are different realities. A church may welcome women’s gifts in worship while reserving consequential judgement for men. It may ordain women while giving them fewer appointments, less formation or no route into senior governance. It may also place women in office without resources, protection or the freedom to disagree.

Pentecostal theology begins with the gift of God, not the permission of a human hierarchy. Yet spiritual gifting does not eliminate discernment, character, competence, formation or accountability. The task is to build institutions that neither silence the Spirit’s work nor turn claims of calling into exemption from responsible governance.

The article places the expansive language of Acts 2—sons and daughters prophesying, young and old receiving the Spirit—beside Pentecostal traditions in which patriarchal structures continue to subordinate women.
