A Healthy Pentecostal Church Must Measure More Than Attendance

The worship is vibrant. The room is full. Testimonies multiply, online viewers join from several countries and new branches are announced. By the measures churches commonly display, the ministry appears healthy.

Yet a fuller examination may reveal young people whose faith cannot travel beyond the service, exhausted volunteers, unresolved complaints, leaders who cannot be questioned, members who remain biblically dependent upon the platform and vulnerable people who do not know where to seek protection.

The first picture should not be dismissed. Attendance, participation, generosity, evangelistic response and organisational growth can be genuine gifts. The second picture should not be hidden. Visible momentum is evidence of activity; it is not by itself evidence of Christian health.

A healthy Pentecostal church must measure more than attendance. It should ask whether the Holy Spirit is forming a body that knows the truth, becomes like Christ, shares gifts, protects people, repairs relationships, serves its neighbours and remains faithful when the conference ends and the camera is turned off.

Renewal Summit 2026 is scheduled to open at Ggaba Community Church in Uganda on 17 August and continue through 21 August.
