Pentecostal Prophecy Must Prepare a People, Not Perform a Prediction

Pentecostal prophecy is trustworthy when it brings Scripture and present reality under Spirit-led discernment, forms a holy and courageous people, protects the vulnerable and leads to accountable obedience.

Pentecost begins with speech. The Spirit is poured out, ordinary believers declare the mighty works of God and Peter interprets the event through Joel's promise that sons and daughters will prophesy. Pentecostal Christianity is therefore right to expect a speaking church rather than a silent one.

Prediction is not absent from the biblical witness. It is simply not allowed to become prophecy's whole identity. Pentecostal prophecy is most faithful when it prepares a people: to hear Christ, tell the truth, care for one another, resist injustice, endure suffering and obey together.
