The Deal Room Needs a Governance Room

The presentation is compelling. A founder describes a market that has been neglected, a public leader identifies an urgent development gap and an investor sees both social value and commercial possibility. Introductions are made, numbers are exchanged and the meeting moves quickly towards a term sheet.

This is the energy Africa needs: people willing to build, finance and scale institutions capable of creating work, solving problems and strengthening communities. Yet speed can hide the questions that determine whether a transaction becomes durable value or an expensive conflict.

Who owns what? Who is authorised to commit the institution? Which interests are undisclosed? What evidence supports the projections? Whose data, labour, land, reputation or future revenue carries the risk? What happens when assumptions fail? Who can review, correct or end the arrangement?

A deal room creates access to opportunity. A governance room makes the opportunity answerable. Africa needs both in the same leadership architecture.

On 13 August 2026, Achievers Summit Africa is scheduled to conclude in Lagos with an investors' roundtable and deal room.
