Pentecostal Compassion Must Follow the Survivor Home

A Pentecostal assembly hears that women, men and children are being trafficked. A resolution is adopted, prayer rises across the hall and an offering begins. Within an hour, a million-dollar goal is surpassed. The moment feels like Acts: conviction becomes generosity, and the gathered church moves together.

Then the meeting ends. The money must be received, governed and allocated. Specialists must distinguish trafficking from migration, poverty, abuse and other forms of exploitation. A frightened person must be identified without being exposed. Someone must provide safe accommodation, lawful referral, trauma care, family assessment, livelihood and patient accompaniment long after the public moment has passed.

Pentecostal urgency is a gift when it moves the Church from indifference to action. It becomes dangerous when the dramatic moment is mistaken for the completed mission.

Prayer, declaration and generosity are beginnings. Pentecostal compassion must follow the survivor home.

On 30 July 2026, the International General Council of the Church of God unanimously adopted an anti-trafficking statement during its eightieth International General Assembly in Orlando. The official denominational report says the statement commits the church to oppose trafficking and exploitation through prayer, education, prevention and restoration.
